Having numerous missing teeth can create serious challenges for chewing and speaking. In some cases, traditional implants or dentures may not be the best fit to replace full sets of teeth. At Leon Springs Dental Center, we work with patients throughout San Antonio, TX, providing cutting-edge dental technology to help restore smiles for even the most complex cases. Dr. Carolyn B. Walker is certified to assess and fit her patients for Hybridge dental implants, an innovative and long-lasting solution to help achieve full chewing capacity and optimal oral health.

What are Hybridge dental implants?

Hybridge dental implants are medical-grade restorative devices typically made from titanium or zirconium specifically designed to replace sets of teeth. Patients may be fitted for Hybridge dental implants to replace the upper, lower, or both sets of natural teeth, depending on their unique needs. At Leon Springs Dental Center, Dr. Walker carefully assesses each patient’s oral health status to determine if Hybridge dental implants are the most appropriate treatment path to take toward a fuller, radiant smile.

What makes Hybridge dental implants different from traditional dental implants?

Traditional implants typically host single artificial teeth or act as two points between a bridge. Hybridge dental implants provide some of the following extra benefits that traditional dental implants may not:

  • Required to be surgically implanted by a dental practitioner with a specialized, Hybridge dental implant certificate
  • Cost-effective method to restore your smile
  • Specifically designed to replace an entire set of missing teeth
  • Accurately fits to match a natural bite for ease of chewing and speaking

Can Hybridge dental implants restore chewing ability?

Hybridge dental implants are designed to withstand the same chewing pressure as your natural teeth, gums, and jawbone. Additionally, the posts are strategically placed so that the artificial set of teeth fit comfortably next to the gumline for a natural, comfortable chewing experience. However, like for any restorative dental device, patients should take precautions to extend the life of their implants by avoiding excessively chewy, hard, or sticky foods.

Am I an ideal candidate for Hybridge dental implants?

You may be a viable candidate for Hybridge dental implants if you:

  • Are struggling with dentures
  • Have several missing teeth
  • Have several decaying teeth that potentially need extraction
  • Have overall healthy gums
  • Have a healthy jawbone
  • Are in good, general health

Dr. Walker will assess your oral health and your dental history to determine if you can safely undergo implant surgery. Patients with active gum disease or a necrotic jawbone will need to get these issues addressed first.

How the procedure works

The patient will participate in a CT scan at Leon Springs Dental Center in San Antonio, TX so that Dr. Walker can measure their new restorations based on oral measurements and the location of nerves and sinuses. Before surgery, Dr. Walker will numb your jaw with a local anesthetic for a comfortable experience. Small incisions are made in the gums and the posts are carefully inserted directly into the jawbone. Once your incisions are patched up and you are cleared for discharge, you may return home to begin your recovery. Dr. Walker will send you home with temporary crowns to protect the implants during the healing process.

Is there a recovery period after Hybridge dental implant surgery?

Patients will be expected to make some dietary modifications for the first few weeks while the posts heal into place. Over several days, patients may progress from soft foods to normal textured foods. However, patients should avoid foods that are excessively sticky, chewy, crunchy, hard, or spicy to prevent gum irritation and injury. After a few months, the patient can return to our office to be fitted for their customized, artificial sets of teeth.

How long will my Hybridge dental implants last?

With the right care and dental hygiene habits, Hybridge dental implants have the potential to last for ten years or longer. Consider applying the following tips to get the most mileage out of your implants:

  • Brush and floss twice daily
  • Avoid sugary foods
  • Use mouth rinse
  • Keep all restorative devices clean
  • Avoid excessively chewy, hard, sticky foods
  • Attend routine dental checkups and cleanings
  • Eat nutritious foods and stay hydrated
